Uruguay, officially the Oriental Republic of Uruguay (Spanish: República Oriental del Uruguay, pronounced [reˈpuβlika oɾjenˈtal del uɾuˈɣwai]), is a country located in the southeastern part of South America. It is home to 3.46 million people, of whom 1.7 million live in the capital Montevideo and its metropolitan area. An estimated 94.6% of the population are of mostly European descent.

Uruguay is a Christian-majority country. Roman Catholicism is the religion of 47.1% of Uruguay's people. Atheists and agnostics account for 17.2% of the population and Jews for 0.9% About 0.1% of Uruguay is Buddhist.
