NATIONAL ANTHEM OF TANZANIA

The flag and national anthem of Tanzania.

The United Republic of Tanzania (Swahili: Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania) (pronounced /ˌtænzəˈniːə/), is a sovereign state in central East Africa bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, and Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique to the south. The country's eastern borders lie on the Indian Ocean.

Religion in Tanzania

It is generally accepted that the population of Tanzania is roughly evenly divided between followers of Christianity, Islam and indigenous African beliefs. However, statistics on religion in Tanzania have not been collected since 1967. This is because the religious balance is considered to be a sensitive topic. No one faith has been declared as the majority religion in order to preserve harmony.

The majority of the Christians are Roman Catholics. Protestant communities include Lutherans and Anglicans, testament to the country's past as a German and a British colony.

The majority of Tanzania's Muslims live near to the coast and mostly follow Sunni Islam.

There are also small communities of Hindus, Baha'is and Buddhists. Tanzania is home to the first Buddhist temple on the continent of Africa, the Tanzania Buddhist Temple.
