Panama, officially the Republic of Panama (Spanish: República de Panamá; pronounced [reˈpuβlika ðe panaˈma]), is the southernmost country of both Central America and, in turn, North America. Situated on the isthmus connecting North and South America, it is bordered by Costa Rica to the northwest, Colombia to the southeast, the Caribbean Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south. The capital is Panama City.
Panama is an international business center, and although it is only the fourth largest economy in Central America, after Guatemala, Costa Rica and El Salvador, it is the fastest growing economy and the largest per capita consumer in Central America.
Religion in Panama[]
The Panamanian government does not colloect official statistics regarding religion, however various sources indicate that the Roman Catholic Church is the majority religion in Panama, followed by about 75% of the population. Evangelical Christianity is followed by about 25% of the population. Islam has a comparatively long history in Panama. Currently 0.3% of the people of Panama are Muslims, most of them tracing their ancestry back to Lebanon, Palestine or India.
The Baha'i Faith is followed by about 2% of Panamanians. Approximately 2.1% of the people of Panama are Buddhists. There are also small groups of Hindus, Jews and Rastafarians.
