Nahshon was the son of Amminadab, the father of Salmon and an ancestor of King David. Nahshon became Aaron's brother-in-law when Aaron married his sister Elisheba. Nahshon was thus the uncle of Aaron's children Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. Nahshon was also the leader of the Tribe of Judah during the Exodus.

Nahshon was the first to bring his offering at the dedication of the Tabernacle. Nahson's offering included:

  • Meal offering: one silver platter and one silver bowl, both of them full of fine flour mixed with oil for a meal offering;
  • one golden ladle full of incense;
  • Burnt offering: one young bull, one ram, one male lamb, all a year old
  • Sin offering: one male goat
  • Peace offerings: two head of cattle, five rams, five male goats, and five male lambs, all a year old.
