Kal is a Punjabi word which refers to death and being subject to the cycle of formation and destruction. It is also used to refer to the cycle itself. i.e.: "Kal bhugt raha hah" - living my [life] cycle". The opposite of "Kal" is "Akal" which refers to an entity which is not subject to the cycle of birth and death . The word "Kal" is used fairly frequently in the Sikh scriptures. The word "kali" means the color "black".
