Churches and other Religious Groups of Hurricane, Utah: (North Washington County) Located in the southwestern corner of the state on the Arizona-Nevada border, this town was founded in 1857 by Mormon pioneers from the southern states hoping to start a cotton mission here. [1]

Are there really hurricanes in Utah?" Well no. This is Utah, not Florida. "How did the town get the name Hurricane?" Legend has it that one windy day in the 1860's Mormon leader Erastus Snow had a whirlwind blow the top off a buggy he was driving. He reportedly said, “Well, that was a Hurricane. We’ll name this the Hurricane Hill.”

The Assemblies of God (AG), officially the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, is a group of over 144 autonomous self-governing national groupings of churches that together form the world's largest Pentecostal denomination. It is the fourth largest international Christian group of denominations.

Baptist Church[]

Baptists form a major branch of Protestant Christianity distinguished by baptizing professing Christian believers only, and doing so by complete immersion. Historians trace the earliest "Baptist" church to 1609 in Amsterdam, Dutch Republic with English Separatist John Smyth as its pastor.

Calvary Chapel[]

Calvary Chapel, an association of evangelical Christian churches, maintains a number of radio stations around the world and operates many local Calvary Chapel Bible College programs. Beginning in 1965 in Southern California, this fellowship of churches grew out of Chuck Smith's Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa.

"As Christians, we believe in learning all we can about Jesus. The greatest happiness in life comes from following the Savior. You will feel His love for you as you seek to understand His life and teachings."[2] This church was founded by their first prophet Joseph Smith in 1830 upstate New York and now has over 16 million members organized into 3300+ "stakes" worldwide. There are several stakes in the local area. (Also referred to as LDS Church or Mormon Church.)

Adair Spring Monument 1857[]

The Adair Spring Monument commemorates the 1857 group of about 38 southerner families were called by Brigham Young on to settle the Virgin River area of Southwest Utah and to crow cotton, to decrease the saints reliance on expensive product from back east. The first group was led by Samuel Jefferson Adair (1806-1889) and a second group led by Robert Dockery Covington (1815-1902) who was appointed president of the newly formed branch at Washington, Utah. Other pioneer families joined them in 1861 but this ambitious endeavor came to an end after the close of the Civil War and cotton prices collapsed.

Jehovah's Witness[]

Jehovah's Witnesses are members of a religion who, although identifying themselves as Christian, are not generally considered as Christians by mainstream Christianity because they are non-trinitarian. They number around seven and a half million. Their headquarters are in New York, USA. The Jehovah's Witnesses are an international organization known for their extensive preaching and publishing activities. They are well known for their rejection of blood transfusions and their specific version of the Bible which some believe is very accurate and others take issue with.

Buddhism is the world's fourth-largest religion with over 520 million followers, known as Buddhists. Buddhism encompasses a variety of traditions, beliefs and spiritual practices largely based on original teachings attributed to the Buddha and resulting interpreted philosophies.

Hinduism is an Indian religion and dharma, or way of life. It is the world's third-largest religion, with over 1.25 billion followers, known as Hindus. It includes a range of philosophies, and is linked by shared concepts, recognisable rituals, cosmology, pilgrimage to sacred sites and shared textual resources that discuss theology, philosophy, mythology, Vedic yajna, yoga, agamic rituals, and temple building, among other topics.

Judaism is an ethnic religion comprising the collective religious, cultural, and legal tradition and civilization of the Jewish people. Judaism is considered by religious Jews to be the expression of the covenant that God established with the Children of Israel.

The objectives of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) are referred to as the Aims of Scouting: Character, Citizenship, Personal Fitness, Leadership. The BSA pursues these aims through an informal education system called the Scout method, with variations that are designed to be appropriate for the age and maturity of each membership division. Their Character building program emphasizes Duty to God. They charter with many local religious groups of all faiths to deliver this program.
