A page from Codex Vaticanus

The Codex Vaticanus is a Greek manuscript of Holy Scripture. The oldest complete bibles are the Codex Vaticanus and the Codex Sinaiticus. The source of the Codex Vaticanus is unknown, but the two most likely sources are either it was brought to the Vatican from Constantinople as a gift to the pope in the fourteenth century, or it was written in Egypt.

In 1860 Alford, and in 1862 Cure, examined a select number of the readings of the Vatican Codex, and published the results of their labours in the first volume of Alford's Greek Testament.
