Religion in California

While predominantly Christian, California has seen a large influx of other religious group from other cultures that have recently migrated to the Golden State.

California is also home to several off-the-wall and controversial religious groups.

Christianity in California

Catholism is the largest Christian denomination, followed by Protestantism and Mormonism.

The LDS Church (Mormons) have seven temples and over 100 stakes in California.

Same-Sex Marriage Amendment

In 2000, Californias overwelmingly passed Proposition 22 which defined marriage as between a man and a woman. This was subsequently overturned by the state Supreme Court. In 2008, many California churches are actively compaigning for Proposition 8, an amendment to the state constitution.
