The Americas cover two continents and about fifty countries with approximately a billion inhabitants. North America includes the wealthy and English speaking predominantly Protestant countries of the United States of America and Canada and the poorer, predominantly Roman Catholic countries from Mexico to Panama. South America contains developing Spanish-speaking predominantly Roman Catholic countries, including Argentina and Chile and the larger Portuguese-speaking predominantly Roman Catholic country of Brazil.
