- Turks convert to Islam
- 1046. Council of Sutri resolves dispute over papacy.
- 1054. Great Schism divides Chalcedonian Christianity between the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches.
- 1095. to 1101. Pope Urban II launches the First Crusade to conquer Jerusalem from the Muslims.
- 1099. Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem established. The kingdom will pass back and forth between the Christian crusaders and Muslim forces until 1291. Control of Jerusalem was a major goal of the Crusades.
